This museum owes its origin to a vast collection of art gathered by Charles and Emma Frye. They arrived in Seattle in 1888. Their passion for art led them to collect fine art painted by both American and European artist.

The Charles and Emma Frye Galleries display a rotating selection from the Charles and Emma Frye Collection consisting of 19th- and 20th- century German, French and American paintings. The Frye Art Museum offers studio art classes and art history courses for individuals aged seventeen and older.

The collection boast of two paintings by renowned German artist Adolf Schreyer whose exotic battle scenes have been lauded the world over.

A guided tour program by volunteers is an enlightening experience. It provides a profound insight into representational art.
