Getting to know the Seattle Symphony
Based in Seattle, Washington, the Seattle Symphony which is an American Orchestra has its first performance on December 29, 1903. In 1911, the symphony was renamed as Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra and finally as “Seattle Symphony” which is widely known over its 100 year history. Yearly, over 300,000 people attend the orchestra’s performances at Benaroya Hall. Under Gerard Schwarz directing since 1985, the orchestra became widely known in the performing arts which makes them deserving of their Grammy award.
Where the Seattle Symphony Play
Benaroya Hall Music Center, a world- class concert hall is where the Seattle Symphony performs. It was named after Jack Benaroya, a philanthropist who has major donation amounting to $15.8M for the building of the facility. The hall remains to be a public facility of the city of Seattle but more than $80 million of the cost of constructing it was paid by benefactors and private sectors. The hall is home to two performance halls, the Mark Taper Auditorium and Nordstrom Recital Hall.
