The Seattle Marathon Association

The roots of this marathon can be traced to 1970, when a group of friends decided to hold their own marathon. From its humble beginnings the Seattle Marathon family of events has risen to great heights and fame.

It is one of the largest marathons in the West Coast. It has been lauded by Runner's World Magazine as one of the top marathons of the USA.

In 1999, a Seattle Kids Marathon was added, which allows children of all ages to run a "full marathon" one mile at a time. 357 children participated the first year, and the event has grown to 2,600 in 2004.
The Seattle Marathon Association (SMA) is a non profit organization governed by a ten member Board of Directors.

All Marathon and Half Marathon run and walk participants receive an ASICS long- sleeved technical fabric shirt and goody bag. Finisher's receive a finisher's medal and certificate of completion.

It is proud of its commitment to providing a quality running event in the Pacific Northwest, providing their sponsors with maximum exposure in association with the event and making a positive social and economic impact on the city of Seattle
